How to start using Echo with your team

We get it, adopting a new tool as a team is painful. Teams which tried Echo say that once they have gotten over the “adoption hump” they can’t imagine not using it. We combined their and our own experience into this guide.

Start small

When creating a workspace for your team first invite a few people you regularly talk to. Once your small cell is onboarded and chatting your teammates will invite people they regularly talk to repeating the cycle.

Up and Running

Agree on keeping Echo on while working but make sure you respect everyone’s focus:

  • Start with a 👋 when you want to chat
  • Expect an answer soon if I’m Online
  • Expect an answer today if I’m Focused or Away
  • Expect an answer tomorrow if I’m Offline

Build a habit

As any new tool, Echo needs a little bit of attention before it becomes a habit.

  • Send 👋 to your teammates every morning and 💤 when you are signing off
  • Remember about Echo every time you are writing an email to your teammate or sending a message in Slack and ask yourself “should I just say it?”
  • Respond an...

Give clear guidance

As a team, decide what you will be using Echo for and what you’d rather keep in texts. Every team is different but here are some suggestions:

  • Slack is for channels, Echo is for DMs and tactic group discussions.
  • Zoom is for focused meetings, Echo is for collaboration spread over a couple of hours. Great examples are working on a presentation or a design and occasionally hitting your teammates for feedback.
  • Small talk!
